This project proposes the creation of a photography book that brings together memory, territory and lived experience, conceived as an open-ended process of visual research. It begins with my personal experience and my Cape Verdean ancestry, exploring the places and people that shaped the lives of my father and grandparents, and the cultural heritage I carry in my blood. The work includes Cape Verde — from its arid landscapes to the blue sea that once carried enslaved people — and the island of Gorée, in Senegal, both symbols of the African diaspora and of the memory of colonialism.

The project combines an intimate experience of grief and intergenerational connection — linking my father to the granddaughter he never met — with an inquiry into history, identity and collective memory. Each person, space and gesture photographed conveys personal experiences and cultural connections, revealing how the colonial past and the African diasporas continue to shape contemporary society.
